Cylinders 2,3, and 4 appear black and sooty an obvious sign they have been running rich or having incomplete combustion. The black carbon on number one has been washed away showing what colour it ought to be. Ideally the colour should match that of a perfectly running spark plug. It is very rare for someone to remove a head from a perfectly running engine thats why it is a rare sight.

Number 2 piston crown is the only one that isn't showing signs of spalling
