Don't always believe what your mates tell you. It's not so bad if they know their stuff, but it's always best to speak to an audio shop regarding this type of stuff.
I've had to put right some absolute horror stories of wiring jobs that mates have installed - using telephone cables etc - some were disasters in the making.
In a car the size of the Clio, an amp and sub may be too much. Yes it'll allow you to play it loud but money well spent on a decent set of replacement front door speakers can make the world of difference. There's really no need to replace the rears - especially if there's none fitted already - after all, you sit in the front and it's you that's listening to the music.
Listen to several different sets - you'll know what you like when you hear them - some are tinny, some are warmer and some are so much clearer.
I chose the Infinity's for their clarity and the JBL's for their warmth.
