Hi, I had a problem which was something like this. It turned out to be a problem with the electronic key reader assembly. When you push in the key a little plastic arm inside the assembly is pushed down and presses a small electronic switch. I guess this triggers something in the electroincs to say that the key is inserted and turns off the lights after a few seconds. This plastic arm is very thin, and in my case broke. I got soldering iron to it and melted it back on. Worked for me. To get at the electronics, pull the ash tray out first , the card reader assembly comes out easy enough after that. I was able unplug and open the key reader box after that. In my case the little arm was sitting inside this box, so keep an eye out for it. My story only, hope it helps. Laguna II 2001.
