I had a similar thing with a front bumper trim fit under insurance. It was not done by Renault, but they did confirm it was not fitting flush. It transpired that they have a problem with some of these parts.

best thing to do to confirm you are right is find a similar car to yours (maybe at a dealer) and compare the difference.

Hope this helps a bit - stick to your guns and don't except poor quality whether it be the part, the workmanship etc etc.
