hi guys,

well, its been a while since i asked a question regarding a renault!

ok so, im helping my mum's friend's husband:)confused:) with his new car, its an S reg 1.4 clio.

i thought to begin with it had a major oil leak from the gearbox, finally got the chance to give it a clean today as the bottom of the box/engine was absolutely soaking with oil! and i spotted its actually power steering fluid and the resevoir is empty. so on closer inspection i cant see an exact location but i did see it drip from the sensor on the metal pipe. ive chased the metal pipe and it changes into a flexi rubber pipe but it goes all the way to the rack as one piece? i imagine this is whats called the high pressure pipe or something?

anyone know where can i source the pipe and or sensor if neccessary? im not really sure i want this job but i said to him i probably wouldnt know which bit is leaking until i start to strip it down as room is tight and i cant see very well.

the speedo doesnt work too but from what ive read on here about them since i joined it looks like its just the sensor, which is a cheapish fix at £26 genuine renault (from fleabay)

thanks in advance guys:),

Thats is the high pressure pipe Stef,it sounds like either the pressure sensor or the pipe is leaking.I'm not sure how much a new sensor is but the pipes are expensive from Renault,if you find it is the pipe leaking then really your looking for either a second hand pipe or a company that can repair the pipe you have.I have used a company called Pirtek before, they make hydraulic hoses on a mobile basis for diggers/trucks/agircultural equipment usually but can normally make up power steering hoses at a price lower than a new one.

hi lag,

i think i can get a second hand pipe with sensor for about £35/£45? is that reasonable? i take it a second hand pipe will seal ok? no seals that need to be replaced or anything before hand?
i will look out for that company and maybe drop them an email if i can but i think ideally i will need to replace.

it looks like a fairly awkward job, looks like the alternators etc will all need to come off first and there isnt alot of room down there but im sure i will manage:eek:

this might even make a good 'how to guide'

cheers lag,

hello cockers,

i have my suspicion that it could be the sensor to be honest as thats where the drip of oil come from that caught my attention.

if so... is it a replace the sensor and thats it job or will i need to replace the pipe and sensor?

does anyone know if the sensor is a renault only part? cant find them anywhere.

cheers

part number 7700413763 £55+vat approx , im sure thats the number but get your dealer to double check.
dont know if you can get them elsewhere as i only tend to use manufacture parts , saves hassle and warranty is better( get what you pay for yada yada yada)
simple job , replace sensor , top up system and keep turning lock to lock to bleed it properly , top up bit at a time so you dont overfill.

ahh thats very handy to know:)

i will need to try and find my nearest renault dealer as my local one shut down a while back(probably when i got rid of the clio:rofl:)

i will run the part number by them and see what it says and check the price and if they have it in stock.
will also see if its possible to get a pipe with the sensor still in from a breakers cheap.

thank you for the info and help cockers, will see how i get on and get back hopefully with a quick how to guide.

cheers
