Bex is right.DON'T use washing up liquid!.The biggest single ingredient in it is salt.This will very quickly dull the paintwork,and after prolonged use will cause corrosion to any exposed metal work(scratches etc)
The valeter that cleans our sales cars uses Auto Smart products,and although they're pretty expensive,are excellent.I also recommend Auto Glym products.If you want to really clean your car then use TFR(Traffic Film Remover),although I think this is a trade only product,and you need to wax your car again afterwards.
I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
