Not sure what they're like on Renaults, but when the MAF sensor on my Dad's old Mondy 2.0 went, he unplugged it for a couple of weeks 'till he could find a new one. Not sure what happened to the mixture, but I guess the ECU was set up to run a default mixture if it 'lost' the sensor. It certainly ran a lot better without the sensor altogether than with a faulty one connected.
