Hi - Had the same problem with Scenic 1.9dci 53 plate and was quoted £85 by dealer to correct! Decided to do a bit of research on the web instead.
The clutch pedal has a "green" end of travel switch that needs to be activated to start the car on the clutch.
I thought this might have been faulty or needed adjusting to make the necessary contact, so tried tried pressing the switch by hand (i.e. without depressing the clutch pedal) while pressing the start button. As I pressed the clutch switch there was a little click at the end and the car started up! It now starts when pressing the clutch pedal using your foot as normal, so it looks like the problem was just a sticking switch.
Don't know how long the switch will last, but it saved me some money in the meantime. Hope this helps someone else out.
