The motor should be ok and the full reg replacement is def easier than the fix kit. Swapping the motor to the new reg make sure you don't lose tension on the winder as its a real pain to rethread - keep it all clamped at all times. If you go for the repair kit you need to get the lengths of the wires that are snapped right. I never worked out how this was supposed to be done...
