The auto dimming mirror gets it right most of the time, but it doesn't dim unless it's already pretty dark outside. I've had a few occasions where, in daylight, someone's been tailing me with either inadvertent main beams on or they've had really badly aligned headlights. I've ended up manually dipping the mirror, which of course you can't do without losing its position because you no longer have the manual lever.
A colleague's Avensis has an auto mirror that also has a button to manually darken it in exactly this scenario. That would have been a handy feature on the Lag's mirror.
The one in our Megane works better than in our "Old" Laguna. The sensor in the Laguna is at the top of the mirror (as you look at the mirror glass) whereas the Meganes is at the bottom.
The C4Picasso also has an on/off button as well so you can switch the auto dimming bit off altogether.
