The sensor should not be removed from the windscreen!!
There should be an airtight fit and no air bubbles between the screen and the sensor. That is why whenever a reputable windscreen replacement company changes the windscreen they also change the rain sensor.
That is why it works when you press on the back of it - you are improving the contact.
Cheers ST, but the sensor on the Scenic looks like it is designed to be easily removed. There is a big black mounting ring bonded to the windscreen. The sensor fits snugly into the ring and is held in place by a spring clip over the back of the sensor. When I removed it there were no signs of any seal that had been broken or removed. The windscreen is a Renault one, so there's a good chance that it is still the original.
I'll see if the warranty will cover it!
