The mlti plug connectors tend to waeken their "grip" on the contacts on the rear clusters over time. Gently bending them back will incrase the pressure and therefore the contact between the two. A fine emery paper can be use on the plugs and contacts to clean off any corrosion on them. The best way is to rig in another earth to the lamp clusters though - it is almost certainly a bad earth here
It used to be an almost yearly job with the '95 Punto we had. Used to look like a Christmas tree at the back until you removed and cleaned the multi plugs on the rear light clusters!
