There are certaintly some ridiculous designs on new cars, but there were the same things happening years ago.I have had the dubious pleasure of helping my boss restore a series 1 E-Type,and that is a complete b1tch to do anything to.

Sure a Mk.1 Escort is easier to do things to than a new Focus, but the Focus will do many more things than an old Escort will.It just depends what you want from a car.Can we live without power steering, aircon,ABS etc?.

To not have an easy to get to drain plug on a radiator is plain ridiculous, and to have a car where you need to take the front bumper off to change a headlight bulb defies belief as there are ways and means to design things that are easy to take apart. If there isn't room to get to the back of a headlight, then make the light easy to remove.Quick release fixings aren't a new invention, and I can't see making a headlight easy to remove would effect the structural integrity of the front of a car enough to effect it's crash protection.

Cars are definately more complicated now than they ever have been, and a lot of it is unneccessary, but can we all live without our creature comforts or have cars that pollute the world to the extent they used to?.Cars are more reliable, safer and less polluting now,so there has to be a trade off somewhere, but some consideration to the poor sod who has fix these things when they go wrong would be nice!.
