Idle has dropped, if anything - 730rpm or thereabouts - and still with that flutter. Never feels in danger of stalling, though, and also appears more immediately responsive when driving (this might be in my head, of course).
All that fretting about idle speed, then I open the Haynes to see it should be within 50rpm of 720rpm: it's pretty much spot-on.
Suspect the MAP hose was leaky when I bought the car, so I just got used to idle being in the low 800s.
