My car's on the 9K
change interval and still blew its
at 70K. Much as it's supposed to be redundant on modern cars running fully synthetic
, I'd also be light on the throttle until the engine's up to temperature and try to let it idle for around 30 seconds before stopping the engine.
You also need to recognise the signs of a
failure and to know what to do. Out of gear, the engine will rev itself silly and refuse to stop with the stop/start button, but in-gear it'll probably just feel like it has lost most of its power. It is essential that you stop the car ASAP and then stall the engine. Quick thinking at this time can make the difference between a bill of a few hundred for a new
, and a bill of a few grand for a new engine.
