Fitting A Stereo

Right. Firstly... appologies cos it's not technically Renault related, but hopefully someone can help. I'm trying to fit a new stereo into my wife's Fiesta. I've wired everything up to the ISO sockets correctly, but no power is getting to the stereo.

However, there is a black box on the same line as the 2 power and ground leads labeled 'Filter and Fuses'. The stereo already has fuses on the power leads fitted to the stereo, so I wouldn't have thought i'd need the others. Just not sure what the 'Filter' bit is. I don't want to chop it off incase it blows the stereo (won't be the first time i've done that ). Could this be why no power is getting to the stereo?

And there's no way i'm paying Halfrauds £40 to fit it for me!!!

Thanks anyone who can help.
