Hope you enjoy the pumping music Rik once you've got that sub fitted!

I can't listen to a normal car stereo any more, just sounds 'tinny'!! I find a sub just makes any music sound better as you can adjust the rest of the speakers in the car to produce just high and mid notes leaving the sub to deal with the bass, gives a much crisper sound. Even heard of a few people into classical music fit them! lol!

I can sort of understand why someone would tell you a sub would destroy 6x9's mounted in a shelf. They must be thinking that the air pressure created by the pumping sub would affect the 6x9's, moving or restricting the cones resulting in damage, but the only way this would happen would be if the shelf sealed the boot making it air tight (which it doesn't) and also only tends to happen if it's a very small space, say 6x9's mounted in a sub box with no divide. Only other way to get a sub to destroy 6x9's would be to fit a sub(s) big enough to completly fill the boot, but I don't think you can buy them that big and if so would cost mega 's!

I have also heard that someone fitted a few very powerfull subs to their car, and when the volume was turned up the resulting air pressure popped their rear window out. Think that is more myth than fact though, if someone else knows different please feel free to correct me. I've seen a few amazing setups over the years including and escort estate with 12, 12" subs in the back, his rear window was fine and you could feel the bass stood a few feet away from the car!
