I had the same problem with my 1.9 Dci megane 02 plate. Guttless, smokey, but still i could feel the turbo was working slightly.
I did a quick service, the usual stuff oil filters etc. This didnt make a difference.
I then removed the EGR valve (a very simple job), cleaned it all up with carb cleaner and made sure the valve shaped disks were seating properly.
When i refitted it it was like a different car. Smooth acceleration, power had returned, no jerkyness. I am very pleased.
I have now removed the electrical connection and bagged and stowwed the connectors, so they dont get dirty.
The smoke under heavy acceleration has now also gone, and i am able to see that there are actually cars behind me.
This took all of 1/2 hour to do (the EGR valve part). Hope this helps jon.
