Lightbulb Lighter rear knocking solved!

Thought I***8217;ll share this with you: Also had the well-known failure of the rear shocks on my Scenic with the shaft breaking off completely. I bought a pair of new shocks from Renault and got it fitted elsewhere for less labour cost. Of course that hammering/banging noise was all gone and the damping was all right, but I now had a lighter rattling kind of knock at the rear. Went back to Renault (where I have a good relationship going) - after a few weeks of waiting for the go-ahead, they replaced the two shocks with a 2nd new pair. The irritating knocking seemed to be less, but after a month or so, we decided we do not want to live with this. I got in touch with the Tech Support guys at Renault head office who informed me they are aware of this, but unfortunately that is how it is; they now get supplied with standard hydraulic shocks from France (cheaper?) - not the gas charged type as originally fitted. And that is the reason for the noisier characteristics.

Another non-franchise Renault specialist confirmed that most after market shocks also have this noisier operation. But eventually I traced a set of Monroe shocks (E5609), have it fitted and the irritating knocking noise finally is gone! (after several months!) I must however, point out that the Monroe***8217;s surely are a bit stiffer than the original ones... Their online brochure claims that the higher damping is only at lower speeds, i.e. still ending off at the same maximum level of damping force.

Now the only remaining rattling (even lighter) at the rear is that from my rear seat belt retraction units***8230;
