Timing belt change appears to be 'never', according to my Haynes?
I think the official interval is 72k but (in common with so many other cars) it's unofficially 36-40k or five years, whichever comes first. So if the belt's original, change it QUICKLY. And if was done at five years or so, still change it!
If you've poked around the forums you'll have noted that the belt change on early Megane engines is a cause of much frustration and heartache: for most variants the engine block doesn't have marks to align the pulleys to. Stupid French people.
