Angry Problem with dashboard display LCD

I have an internittent problem with the dashboard display on my grand scenic (3.5 yrs old) . The clock and trip computer are randomly resetting (not during use but have reset when you start the car (but not all the time). I have also had random error messages appear (tyre sensor error - even though I dont have tyre sensors).

Car was in for service with Renault so I asked them to check it out. They say that there is a fault with the display etc but to fix will have to change the whole dashboard at a cost of 466 . Putting aside my feeling that a car at this cost should not get this problem in under 4 years (sales of goods act etc etc !) has anyone experienced something similiar?

I will try and get more info on the actual fault and post it later.

Any advice appreciated!
