I had a 99 Phase 1 Megane, 1.6e engine that ate headgaskets (and eventually the head itself) for breakfast. I may have had a "Friday afternoon" car though...
Apart from that - lovely comfy cars they are, and recommended
Mine was written off after a car park shunt, though thew damage wasn't bad I took the money and ran - the £££s came in handy for carpeting my new house, with enough spare for abother car. Seems a decent price, I spent £100 less for a 94 Cavalier recently
Good luck with it
EDIT - mine always caught speed bumps, and steep milti-storey car park ramps on the exhaust too. Must be a design quirk!
The Vauxhall Cavalier - one of the safest cars you'll bump into
