Windscreen wiper blades

Now this is probably going to sound a really dumb question, but how do you fit replacement front wiper blades to a Laguna II?

My existing Valeo ones are now completely knackered, so I thought I'd treat myself to a shiny pair of Bosch ones.... but I can't get the damn things to fit on! The problem seems to be that the wiper arms don't fully extend up, which means that you can't position the blades at the right angle to slide them over the end of the stalk and clip into place.

I noticed that the existing Valeo ones have a larger 'gap' where you attach the arms through, so that you don't have to raise the arm that much. Does that mean I need to get replacement Valeo blades instead, or is there a way you can raise the arms further up?
