Most people especially those who work for a living can ill afford to take time off and probably lose more money than the extra costs of fuel. So it would become a double whammy - loss of income plus having to pay for fuel to crawl around the country waving flags. I understand the truckers dilemma as it is that their jobs are directly affected by the additional expense. But they also have the possibility of passing on their additional costs but the average man in the street has practically no way of doing so. One other aspect to consider is that should the goverment reduce tax or duty on fuel would it not mean that we as drivers would be indirectly subsidising the
companies (cheaper fuel would mean we would use more - hence more profit) who would probaly just rake it more profits. The price of fuel has rocketed for one reason and one reason only - demand is beginning to outstrip supply. If the government reduces taxation on fuel it will either have to find another source of taxation or reduce its expenditure - either way it the guy in the street who will have to cough up. Yeah but the tax on fuel is proportional to price - higher the price higher the tax. Makes no sense. And the tax on derv is the same as the tax on petrol. Makes no sense.
