About 10 years ago a friend of mine bought 2 Lada Rivas for £150 - parked the worst one up in his shed - drove the best one and used the other as a source of spares. He drove it for 4 years - even making 3 trips to France and beyond. He reckoned it was cheap motoring but he ended up with arms like a gorilla the steering was so heavy. One other benefit he also claimed was he was never asked to do the schol run as his daughter refused to be seen dead in it. I am starting to think there was a method to his madness and when his friends ragged him about it he would just answer - it beats walkng any day.
Even though not the best car in the world it sold a total of 13 million. Aptly it badge was that of a sailing ship which matched its handling exactly
