In answer to your question no. Spraying a thicker coat will actually give less chance of an "orange peel"

With a thicker coat the paint will "flow out" better.

Again using a spraycan it is virtually impossible to get "orange peel". It is normally down to the spraying technique and air pressure used when using a spraygun.
