Thanks for your ideas. I had the car diagnosed (for 40) and the cause appaears to be a key whose chip is giving a weak signal. They tested the immobiliser receiver ring using another key and measured the correct signal strength. That's why they are pretty sure that it is the key chip. So I will get the key cloned by a local locksmith who can both supply the key and clone it for about 30. I actually already have an uncloned key, so the cloning will csot about 5.
