Good post - Nafuk - glad you got it sorted. I had a similar problem with a peugeot - wrestled with it for the best part of a day and then decided to make a tool for the job using a few bits of metal and a welder after a friend told me there was a special tool which allowed equal pressure to be applied to each side of the locking ring. It worked a treat.
