Megane: Head gasket tends to blow so you need to watch out for any signs of white liquid on the oil cap as an indicator. It gets a bit expensive to replace a HG...

Exhaust: Back box can be a git when replaced - ours kept dropping off. Eventually kwikfit tried another brand and so far so good but due to the design I'm sure it won't be long...

Back lights: The connections can get a bit loose over time leading the lights to do weird things.

Timing belt (also known as cambelt): Needs replacing every 70k or 5 years which ever comes first. Check to see if it has been replaced before buying. If it hasn't and it snaps, you'll be in for an expensive engine rebuild or hunting for a replacement engine...

Apart from that, its a great car. Generally reliable as long as the HG is intact. Ours almost went to the scrap yard when the HG blew but I couldn't bare to part with it. Eventually we found someone to fix it for a rock bottom price of 300 (which is VERY cheap).

Tiggerz_SRI will be the best to advise you on the insurance - he used to work directly in car insurance.
