The paint work sounds as though it's beyond repair/renovation,so you'll need to rub down the paint thats their with fine wet and dry paper(1200 grit) and respray it.As long as you don't go through the layers of paint and primer thats already been applied to it,you won't get any reactions with fibre glass/plastic panels.
If any fibre glass is exposed,then you'll probably need a 'blocker' to apply first.This will be available from any decent motor factor/paintshop.
I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
