Also, different cars respond differently to styles of driving. When I first got the Lag, I very rarely knocked it down a gear climbing hills, because I thought a diesel, even a non-
one would benefit from revs being kept low, however in reality that has an awful effect on consumption in this car - if I knock it down a gear and allow the revs to climb, I can easily get extra 10% of miles out of the same amount of fuel because I'm not actually pushing it so hard.
Also, my car responds very well to being driven gently - it doesn't actually seem to get where it's going any faster if you push it, but it is a lot less economical.
