Ah.. but as I mentioned in my initial post, the car is in St Lucia (caribbean) we don't have renault dealer there. and certainly no roadside breakdown services..what was I thinking when I brought it over!!

It was plugged into some sort of diagnostice computer over there which identified the throttle body as being faulty. This was replaced but made little difference. And from what I've read failure of certain components like the TDC sensor are not even picked up by scanner
