Steven, I have a 98 RT Estate 2.0 auto, also had same problem with the tailgate interior light. I removed the lock mechanism from inside the tailgate and there is a very small switch that is attached to the lock that works the light. On mine, water had got to the switch and corroded the thin copper connectors, they have spade type ends that connect to two wires. I removed the switch, cleaned up the ends of the broken copper connectors, filed the switch to expose more copper, then resoldered the connectors in place on the switch. Replace lock and refit plastic trim to inside tailgate. It was quite easy to do and the light now works perfectly. You could try getting another switch from a breaker but I guess they may all suffer from the same water leaks. Hope this helps. Cheers, Paul
