As I had found on this forum, from under the car with a good light source it is possible to see the two black plastic rocker arms that the release cables are connected to. My wife’s Lag p1 has air con and it did not prevent the process working.

After driving up ramps it is possible to access the bonnet release – I and others here have done it,,,
I used a long screwdriver 950mm (2.5 feet long) to push up at the end of the plastic rocker arms. It’s fiddly but each catch released for me. The cables were intact but, as per the dicussions elsewhere in this forum, dirt and corrosion had done their bit…

After the bonnet was up I removed and carefully cleaned the catches – then greased on re-assembly. I found the instructions here good and after an initial panic over having the bonnet well and truly stuck all is well.

My thanks to others who posted this fix, it’s a really frustrating fault.
