You have probably got a faulty Ignition Coil .. If the vehicle detects a misfire then it will put the warning light on..

You are correct in not driving the vehicle, as the misfire will be dumping unburnt petrol down the cat. This will Rapidly destroy the Monolyth in the Cat..
Mind you as the vehicle is still under warranty and if the Cat did fail it would be replaced under Consiquential damage due to coil failure..

Call Renault AA assistance and they will replace the coil for you at the road side.. (the AA carry new coils on their patrols as it is probably No 1 reason for Megane 1.6 break downs) So no need to visit a dealer..
