Thank goodness you can't switch the engine off whilst the wheels are in motion - just imagine the steering lock coming on at 70 mph. A darned good safety measure if you ask me. Even the French figured that one out many moons ago
The steering lock only operates when you remove the key card, you cannot remove the key card unless the engine is switched off.
A problem well stated is a problem half solved !
