The special tool is a small drawer as shown in the link below.
If you can get an assistant to hold a couple of large screw drivers under the wiper arm close to the shaft - then gently tap it with something relatively soft - take care not to damage the threads. Its wise to keep the nut on the end of the shaft until it looses its grip - a few squirts of releasing fluid may also assist.
