Yes but imagine you are a poor sod who doesn't take too much care of their cars, relying on dealerships (both Renault franchise and others (non-Renault)) to look after your call on an annual basis...there is nothing I am reassured by on the state of the bonnet-catch safety mechanism.
Your comments are valid ... but any safety catch that may fail - is a safety-defect period.
Until Renault own-up and accept this, this issue is not going away, and there is no guarantee that any interim/remedial action could resolve this.
I have heard of Renault Clios returned from a Renault dealership for servicing, only to experience the bonnet failure (the garage in question tried to argue it wasn't their fault!). I don't recall the outcome of this, but clearly if a Renault mechanic can't grease and close a bonnet properly - then this is more concerning for us joe-bloggs!
