Hi smit,

The bulb type is D2R as you correctly stated.

The factory fit bulbs are 4300K which give a clean white light and puts the most light onto the road apparently. Unless you are buying a pair I would get one of those. Also get a philips made one if you can as then they will be the same and guarrenteed to give out the same amount of light.

The 6000k bulbs give a slight blue tint to the bulb, which makes for the executive Merc / BMW look. 8000K will be very blue and is more for show cars I think.

I replaced the bulbs in my car early this year and got the 6000K bulbs from Great bulbs at a great price (70 for the pair). The price of 80 that you were quoted from a dealer is cheap, I was quoted 125 for one bulb.
