If your MOT runs out on the 30th of July, you can have it tested from the 30th of June, and if it passes you get 13 months. If you have it done before this, your new MOT will run out on the date preceeding the day of test the following year.
i.e 29th of July test, due 28th of July the following year.

Computerisation HAS made a difference - in the past when the MOT tester filled out the certificate by hand he could give you 13mths MOT if you were more than 31 days early, but could only post date by a maximum of 1 mth.

With computerisation, according to our Nissan main dealer, if you enter todays date and your MOT is not due for say 32 days, the computer will not accept it and put the date down as 12mths from today for the expiry date. It will only allow for the extra calendar month if you are exactly a month in advance of less.
