With computerisation, according to our Nissan main dealer, if you enter todays date and your MOT is not due for say 32 days, the computer will not accept it and put the date down as 12mths from today for the expiry date. It will only allow for the extra calendar month if you are exactly a month in advance of less.

If some one took their car 32 days before their MOT ran out and the tester gave them 13 months ticket then IMHO what the hell was he playing at. Surley if they then put a later date then that would be classed as illeagal.
