The Lamda sensor measures the CO levels in the exhaust gases and the ECU adjusts the fuel intake accordingly. Before replacing the Lambda sensor it may be worth checking out its connections as diagnostic equipment will give the same result if it's electrical connections are broken or corroded. I take it you have had the coils checked out as they have a nasty habit of going faulty and the Lambda sensor gets dirty thus showing its faulty when in fact all it may need is cleaned
