This might make things more clear.....then again the drawing is pretty p1ss poor so it might not!.
This is attempting to show that the pin threads into the hole in the block and the crank journal just sits up against it.The end of the pin needs to be exactly the right length to make sure the crank is in the right position.
I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
