I wouldn't have thought the fan would draw enough to flatten the battery in a couple of hours either.
A fan can draw a reasonable amount of current, running continuosly for several hours. Also if the battery is not in good condition it wouldn't take much to drain it. We have also just come out of winter where the battery is working hard and may not be in tip top condition.
How old is the battery in the car. If it is 3yrs old or older I would consider buying a new battery.
