Luckily, I had literally just pulled away from the kerb when it went. One sharp end of the springhad stuck in the very edge of the wheel and tyre causing damage to both.

Thank lucky stars it happened then and not during the previous day when my wife had been on a 300 mile round trip (mostly motorway). Our mechanic said it could have been 'catastrophic' if the car had been going at any speed.

"I'm not easily distrac... ooh ooh look, shiny thing"
