hard to say, the pump failing could do that as it would stall the engine, but if the belt went, there could be briefly some metal noise as the valves hit the pistons etc.
You cant mistake the two and the cambelt would be in bits!
Diesel pumps can be VERY expensive.
Hope shes back on the road soon!
