Many battery suppliers will do a free battery and alternator test in the hope of a sale. I have also heard Vauxhall Corsas have suffered similar problems with their electric steering systems.
Could be something in this as I have noticed mine does not arm till the engine as been up n running for a sec or two maybe just long enough for the battery volts to recover from the start up, it does not arm until the engine is actually running so if it's not charging it most likly wont arm
