What happens if you sit in the car with the engine running and press as hard as you can on the brake pedal? I know we are talking French design here, but the easiest way would be to have two contacts in the brake light switch, activated at different amounts of pedal travel.
Its triggered by the ABS computer and you really need to be stopping hard with the ABS operating for them to activate ... hard braking doesnt do it.
