Ok......if what your talking about is the same thing as I had at work last week the fuse is in fact part of the positive wire to the starter motor.
We had a Nissan Kubistar (re-badged Renault Kangoo) came in last week that cut out and wouldn't re-start.The starter motor was fubar'd and had blown the link fuse in this wire.A new starter was fitted and the connection was by-passed and it started first turn of the key.We are now waiting for the replacement positive cable and the job is done.
If you want you can bypass the fuse,but it is there for a reason.You could also bypass it with another fuse in line,but I have no idea how big a fuse you'd need.
I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
