When I had a replacement sensor - I stripped the old one down out of curiosity. The way the components are held together, including battery, I would say it would be a near impossibilty to reuse the battery installed - however I guess nothing is impossible.
Out of interest, when you get a new sensor can you tell how old it is (i.e what the manufacturing date was)?
I assume that the battery is connected when it is encapsulated so it will start discharging from that point.
